Cher Paid Us A Visit

We forgot to tell you -- but a couple of weeks ago, Cher came to visit our store. She came with her interior designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard and several security folks and friends.

We had advance warning -- someone called to ask if we would close the store for a V.I.P. but they didn't say who it was. We didn't close the store, but Cher showed up anyway ...

So while we consider all of our guests celebrities -- this time it was a celebrity's celebrity.

Summer's Here

Summer is here, everywhere in the northern hemisphere, and near the equator where we are it is just hotter than usual. In early June we had several record breaking days-- still, they were only in the low 90s or high 80s...none of this more-than-100 degree stuff we'll see on the mainland and elsewhere this summer.

Our famous tradewinds, which have been noticeably absent, are back -- and we're told maybe for a while. Which is great. It means no vog (volcanic smog) on Oahu, and lovely beach days for all of us, including visitors.

In the meantime, though big traditional gardenia are reaching the end of their season, we still have tahitian gardenia and beautiful pinwheel gardenia like the ones shown here in our backyard.

At Lanikai Bath and Body, our scents are all true to Hawaii. The lotions are light
fresh and soothing. All good for a sunburn anywhere -- or just to love your skin in summertime.

Lanikai Helps Save 4th of July Fireworks

A 60 year tradition in Kailua almost fell by the wayside, when the usual group of suspects declined to support the annual fireworks display off the beach on the 4th.

An alert reader of our website Best of Kailua informed us that the fireworks had been cancelled and should be removed from our web calendar. Instead of removing it, Brook swung into action with some friends, creating http://www.savekailuafireworks.com/ and wresting the somnulent out of their slumber ... money began pouring in and the fireworks is 90% close to being saved.

So plan on grabbing a square foot of beach on the 4th of July. Kailua -- Hawai`i's favorite small town -- will have its magnificent fireworks display once again.
