The Kids are Getting A Poi Dog

Even thought they are offical breeds -- the labradoodle and the portuguese water dog -- they are still poi dogs to us. Especially because the Obamas are planning on getting their dog from a shelter.

All over the net there are kennels with copyrighted pics of very expensive labradoodles and potuguese water dogs. Fortunately, there was an article in USA Today with pics of the two mixed breeds ---

They are mixed breeds, therefore mutts like Obama, therefore poi dogs. So somehow
we will send them Poi Dog Shampoo so the Presidential Poi Dog can get a proper bath.

One day on her show Bonnie Hunt had a rant about perfume and smelly lotions in general, and that when we wear them we really impose on their environment.

So she said on a show before Christmas.

Poi Dog for Charlie

This particular Charlie is Bonnie Hunt's beloved lab pit bull mix, for whom she cooks special meals (you can find the recipe on her site).

She loves him to death and she is currently looking for a companion for him as he
is getting older. He was on the show last week, with several rescue dogs wandering
around looking for approval. We don't know if Bonnie and Charlie made a decision.

But we do know that they would love Lanikai Poi Dog, which we plan to send her

We Lava You! Today, January 20th, hometown boy Barack Hussein Obama was inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States.

Everyone is making a buck off him -- he surely doesn't mind: he is his own economic stimulus.

The award winning chocolate lady from the Big Island (aka, properly known as the island of Hawai'i) has settled in to the space formerly occupied by Dawn's dress shop across from KFC.

Her candies are beautiful, miraculous, imaginative! And they taste fabulous.

The store is a bit out of the way and it seems pretty much unlikely that someone who would search out a famous KFC Bowl would like to top off the experience with a delectable piece of chocolate, but I urge those of you who have never so much as turned in the direction of KFC to go there and bang a hard right if you are headed towards Hardware Hawaii, and a hard left if you are passing up KFC.

Park your car and go into the magic world of Chef Melanie, chocolate master chef cum diamond buyer.

She does love the rare and beautiful. You must, must, must seek her out and tell others about her, too. We cannot lose her!

Snowy in Hawaii

While we read of terrible snowstorms where our children are (Kyla and Fiona in B.C. and Andrew in Washington) and where our sister, one child and lots of friends are on the East Coast, we are (fairly) cozy and warm here in Kailua. For us, it is
cold, but we realize that is pure chicken stuff. It is not cold here in Kailua by any body's measure.

However, up at the top of Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii, a winter wonderland has descended. And given the weather predictions it is likely to last for a while.

Hawaii is such a beautiful place to live and to be! Come and visit and be sure to stop at Lanikai Bath and Body!

Most Complimented Gift

When we give gifts, you might be able to guess that they come from Lanikai Bath and Body!

This year, with the world growing ever more eco-aware, we gave many people BHappy Bags...and they loved them. They are great for shopping or for just moving stuff from here to there.

They don't advertise Costco while you are at SAm's Club, Safeway while you are at Foodland, or Trader Joe's while you are at Whole Foods.

BTW has anybody written the etiquette chapter on that one? Can I take my special edition Barack Obama bag to a Republican's house?

Who knows. It's most important that we remember to bring the bags -- which ever ones we have -- into the store with us so we minimize the plastic bags we take home (according to experts, the plastic bags we get at the grocery store are in our possession for less than 20 minutes on average).

Item of the Year

The item of the year ... 2008 ... ta daa! .. goes to Hawaiian Tap, The Water Bottle. Having registered the name Hawaiian Tap more than four years ago so that we could do a bottled water of Hawaiian Tap water, making fun of Dasani and Aquafina and the like, and because we have the best tap water in the world -- we finally put the name to work on water bottles so everyone can "bottle your own."

It's a badge -- just like the eco bags you carry around in your car but forget to bring into the store, ending up with more plastic bags. Here's to a year where we remember to bottle our own, and remember to bring those bags inside the store with us.
