Dad Should Take A Bath

For some reason, you don't think of Dads taking a bath. Maybe that's changed since my Dad never took a bath, and my husband only takes them when his back is sore -- but Dads should take a bath with MEBath, our super "ice cream" scoop of handmade luxury.

It takes three days to make a MEBath scoop, with essential oils being blended and shaped, blended and shaped, blended and shaped. It takes just one full bathtub with Dad in it, and a MEBath scoop fizzing into invisibility and rendering a smooth and silky experience like none he has ever had.

In James Joyce's Ulysses, Leopold Bloom referred, if I remember correctly, to his privates as Mr. Flowers because of the way it/they floated up in a garden of hair when he bathed. Mr. Flowers would have loved MEBath. So will your Dad.

Father's Day

Father's Day is coming up, and we wanted to remind you that Lanikai Bath and Body has lots of great stuff for Dad, including:

- MudFlap soap for hard bodies, featuring the adorable cutie that shows up on the mud flaps of trucks.
- Orange Spice, Guava Tangerine, Sandalwood, Lime Ginger and Pineapple Coconut handmade cold pressed soaps (to name the scents that appeal to Dad).
-Buddha Surf Unzented lotion, wash, massage oil and shampoo.
- Pohaku. Sandalwood scented lotion, toner, shampoo and wash.
- Naupaka. Coconut Lime Verbena lotion, wash, shampoo, bath salt, massage oil and more!
- Hawaiian Tap. Bottle Your Own. Aluminum sport bottles in 22 ounce deep blue with white imprint, and the original big green one litre bottle will be back in stock by June 5.

Hope you had a great Memorial Day weekend, and that we'll see you at Lanikai Bath and Body soon. Gifts for Dad's on the mainland should be mailed by June 10th (we'll be happy to do that for you, of course) because Father's Day in the USA is June 15th.

For those of you who live in Australia and New Zealand, you have a bit of time -- Father's Day is not until early September where you are!

Kailua Radio Shack

Just a few doors down from Lanikai Bath and Body is our hometown Radio Shack, where we pop in for everything from computer ink to ipod headphones. Michelle gave Mark some really good advice on new headphones so whether he uses them to walk (as he intends) or to listen to music at his computer (as he actually does), they were an excellent purchase.

Manager Mike has been giving us advice on a variety of things, most recently security, and loss prevention. Sharp-eyed Sam (pictured here in the store) has noted some little girls nervously exiting the store having probably pilfered a small package of Lanikai bath salts. "But they are just little kids," she said to Manager Mike. "That doesn't matter", said he.

At any rate, its great to have good neighbors, and we do, all around us. Kailua is a great small town, and Kailua Shopping Center a perfect location for Lanikai Bath and Body!

The Very Best Yogurt

The very best yogurt in the whole wide world is right here in Kailua at Bubble Berry Yogurt.

I am speaking of the plain tart yogurt, which, I understand from Brook is experiencing a revival all over the place. It used to be that you had to go to Yami Yogurt at Ala Moana in order to get plain tart yogurt. Then, Yami Yogurt was sold to some company which could not get the recipe right and that was the end of our
trips to Ala Moana for yogurt.

Now, however, we can make daily visits to Bubble Berry where we see our pal and yogurt princess extraordinnaire Kathy Carbone. Kathy is pictured here with green tea yogurt (you can have that if you want) but we like the plain tart yogurt which is magnificent!

They also sell Bubbies ice cream. So take your pick!

Bubble Berry is located righ at the corner of Oneawa and Uluniu Streets and you can usually grab a parking space.

New Product at Lanikai

We have lots of variety (is that redundant?) in our new b.happybag line of cool
carryalls built on the footprint of a standard grocery bag.

Be sure to stop in and buy one before you head to Times for your daily shop!

Beautiful Aroma Therapy

As I think I mentioned previously. we have more room in our new store to display our beautiful products. Especially benefitting from new display is our aromatherapy line -- Ocean, Earth, Fire and Air -- made from the most glorious essential oils and guaranteed to make you feel great.

Each of the aromatherapy lines includes lotion, massage oil, body wash and mist.
They're wonderful. Do come in and try them.

P.S. The wonderful photo above the display is by Doug Peebles, the man who took the fabulous signature shot of the Mokuluas. We now have a couple of his coffee table books (Oahu & Hawaii) as well as prints for sale.

A Peek in the Back

These beautiful blue stairs are in the back of our new Lanikai Bath and Body store. They were painted by Mark the weekend before we opened. He also put gripper-stuff on each of the stairs ... which is way cool, so we don't slip and slide around.
We have two level storage, with enough room for pretty much everything -- and room to move around on the first level, unlike in the first Lanikai Bath and Body store.

Margaret has done a great job, along with Brook and Sam, of organizing things and keeping everything humming. We're getting some new shelving in early next week,
and we have new products in as well.

So be sure to stop by Lanikai Bath and Body in our new location at Kailua Shopping Center. We got a beautiful new fountain, and so you simply must come and see it.

For those of you who are not here (sorry about that!), I will take a photo of the fountain and post it shortly.

We are Two Weeks Old

In our new location! Everybody loves the new Lanikai Bath and Body, us most of all.

We are settling into the niche between Manuhealii and Morning Brew, and new people find us every day.

Because we have more space, our products have lots of room to breathe, and our beautiful aromatherapy line is getting the appreciative selection it has long deserved.

Our new line of Hawaiian Tap (bottle your own!) water bottles has been really well received. One customer bought 13 of the 22 ounce version on Sunday, and we have a waiting list of 15+ for the big green originals that we'll have back in stock in the beginning of June.

We also have in more palm wax candles, including the all new, amazingly scented
Bamboo Forest.

Please visit us soon -- and if you're not in town, go to www.lanikaibathandbody.com

Breakfast at Mokes

In a tribute to the Japanese tourists who come in increasing numbers to our small town of Kailua, I asked my husband to take a picture of our Saturday breakfast at Mokes Bread and Breakfast, our favorite place to spend a morning's meal.

Mokes is a very homey place, located almost in the middle of town next to the long running and famous-in- many- circles Peppino's pizza. We have been fans of Mokes since first discovering it three years ago. They have the BEST hashbrowns, the freshest and most perfectly ripe papaya, delicious waffles and excellent "american breakfasts." Aloha flows, and owner/hostess Terri and her crew pop by with coffee and water at just the right moment.

Mokes is very near to the original Lanikai Bath and Body, and not too far from our
new store. So when you are visiting Kailua, be sure to visit Mokes -- and Lanikai Bath and Body, of course!

This is What You See

When you are lying on a bench outside the Windward YMCA while you are waiting for your son to pick you up after swimming.

On this particular day, the skies in Hawaii were full of vog (volcanic fog) which had settled in owing to the lack of tradewinds. Except that it was strangely warm and differently humid, I imagined it to be the visual equivalent of a nuclear winter. I actually felt like I should duck into a bomb shelter, if I could find one.

Even though no one could see the mountains, or get a clear view of the ocean from the mountains, it was still a beautiful Hawaii day. The pool at the "Y" was a perfect 84 degrees and just being in the water was a relief from the weird atmospherics.

The trades came back and the beautiful mountains reappeared -- but according to the weather men and women, the vog will settle in again tomorrow. We are using airconditioning for the first time in a long time.

Pineapple

Believe it or not, the caption for this illustration on Google Images is "How to Eat Pineapple." A Hawaiian take on a Vargas drawing.

Anyway, at Lanikai Bath and Body, we eat pineapple, but usually not at the store. At the store, we mix the heady scent of pineapple with coconut for a lotion, appropriately named Pineapple Coconut. We also mix it with the scent of lilikoi or starfruit and name it Lanikai Breeze (also appropriate but not eponymous).

They are both yummy summer scents. Come in and try them!

Margaret and Sam

Here's a great picture of Margaret and Sam on the day we opened the store in our new location at Kailua Shopping Center.

The new store is great. Be sure to stop by and visit!

It's the location, stupid!

To paraphrase Bill Clinton's early campaign slogan about the economy, we finally get that it is the location! We had an opportunity to move Lanikai Bath and Body -- which our readers know about -- and we did. We are now open at Kailua Shopping Center between Manuhealii and Morning Brew. The store, as you can see in the picture, is beautiful.

It has 16 foot ceilings and is about twice the size of the original Lanikai Bath and Body, giving us more room to display your favorite products, and to expand our offerings.

We hope you will come and visit us soon! xxoo Lanikai Bath and Body

Happy Mother's Day from Lanikai Bath and Body

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
